John Fuller, Captain from Cambridge, Captain Richard receiving the Herve Trophy from Barry Larcombe, Essex Captain.

Still looking to extract some revenge for Essex choosing to play this fixture 2 years ago at Boyce Hill we all turned up at Royston with its hills and slopes hoping for the wind and weather to behave and for once it was reasonable. As always in this fixture, the Club Professionals from the Society Captains home club lead the field off so after watching Ian Jelley from Brookmans Park start with a par the omens looked good. So after a good day, friendships reunited and new friends found and an excellent meal the results were announced with the teams all finishing within 12 points of each other. The result, being a carbon copy of last year with Cambridge on 479 points sandwiched between Essex and the wooden spoon on 477 points and the eventual winners Hertfordshire on 489 points, 6 down on last years winning total. So, Captain Richard has retained the Cup and thrown the mantle down to the VC for next season when we will be playing back in Essex at Braintree.
