Obviously, there is something about this fixture because despite it being June the annual match against Suffolk was played in constant rain and drizzle bringing back memories of Fynn Valley a few years ago. We sat down to a very nice ploughman’s before the start of the match, as we walked to the first tee the rain started.  However, an unexpected bonus awaited us at the halfway house where we were treated to hot drinks, a selection of cakes, and a welcome break from the rain by Allan Gray and his wife which was much appreciated by all.

Despite the rain, the match was played in the usual friendly spirit with old acquaintances renewed. Chris Briggs of the Suffolk team is to be congratulated for his competitive spirit playing the whole round without a partner. The course was in excellent condition irrespective of the weather. the only issue was the penalising rough. Following a welcome hot shower, we enjoyed a good evening meal.  The left hand photo is of Suffolk President Keith announcing the result of a home win for Hertfordshire by 5 ½ to 2 1/2 .
