On a very hot and humid day, the annual match against the Captain’s Club took place at Old Fold Manor, they selected a very strong team. Their desire to win the Salver that we now play for was evident from the outset. It was fantastic to see many old and new faces meeting, following the relaxation of the coronavirus rules.  Whilst the removal of the flagsticks was welcomed by most, the return to bunkers in play was less so. A great day was had, as the 20 pairs battled for the honour of winning the Salver now kept at the Captain’s Club for the year of his reign. We were all kept in suspense as 2 great Past Presidents Les Sinkins and Willie Brookes followed behind playing their own 2 ball battle finishing an honourable draw.

The end of the game saw the players enjoying a refreshing cool shower before a delightful summer meal of sea bass, with a great buzz around the clubhouse as we could all socialise together again, sensibly of course.

The Captains made their traditional speeches with Phil Kitchen, current Cub Captain at Old Fold having the honour of announcing an impressive home win 8 – 2. We now look forward to Neil’s Captains Day back at Old Fold in August and the Xmas Fayre in December, so there will be no excuses for not knowing the course! Click Photos
