On an almost perfect day for golf, the members turned up in the sunshine, to a beautifully presented course at South Herts Golf Club to celebrate Malcolm Bye’s day as President of the Society. After a light lunch, the membership set off in 3 balls which meant the pace of play was perfect. There was a slight wind which made things tricky but there were some excellent scores with 6 players in the field scoring a very creditable 37 points or more.

After an excellent well cooked 3-course meal the speeches began. I am pleased to say they were all brief and after a belated but warm welcome from the Club Captain Colin Taylor, a few words from our Captain Neil and President Malcolm the prizes were presented. It became clear there was one member whose day had been excellent. In fourth place on countback with 18 points on the back 9, beating David Brewer and Alan Thomas saw our Treasurer Bob Howell, Arkley, collect his prize with 37 points. In 3rd place a good day for Arkley with Tim Corbett on 39 points which left a long-lost member now at Harpenden Common, Keith Davies, scoring an excellent 40 points. The winner of 2 nearest the pins and claiming the first place, was Peter McIntyre, Mid Herts, scoring 42 points to win The Clive Harkett Claret Jug. Click Photos
