On a great day for golf, 45 members of the society, including 10 Past Captains arrived at Old Fold Manor for Captains Day.  We enjoyed a warm welcome and bacon roll before setting off to play in the sunshine for once, where everyone was treated to a course that proved challenging. The setup with quick greens, many sloping, with plenty of borrow and difficult pin positions. Captain Neil looked after everyone at the halfway house with drinks and chocolate. Following the round we enjoyed a superb meal with wine before the results and brief speeches. The first eagerly awaited result was the Past Captain’s battle, this year saw local man Alan Sallis claiming that honour on his own course!

In the main event, a tight finish at the top of the leader board saw 3 members tied on 34 points with local man, Ian Huckle claiming fourth place on countback. Second and third places were also separated on countback, scoring 35 points with David Brewer just edging out Don Foster from Arkley. So, that was 2 members of OFM in the top 4 but winning on 37 points, claiming the coveted Captain’s Prize and The 1966 Cup was David Biggerstaff from Letchworth, congratulations David.

This was also the final qualifying event for the R & A Quaich played for over the 3 singles events during the season, VC Day, Presidents Day, and Captains Day with the best 2 scores to count. This year it was won by an Arkley member for the third time, Tim Corbett with an impressive 80 points, well played Tim.
