We welcomed our friends from Bedfordshire to the annual match, this year at Mid Herts GC. Having lost the Pearson plate last year, the team was focused on winning the trophy back. A cloudy autumn day turned into a warm sunny afternoon with a light breeze, ideal conditions for the match. After Bacon rolls, a strong Herts team gave an impressive display on a well-presented course, most matches went the distance and all enjoyed the greens, but they were very tricky to read. In the absence of Captain Neil, VC Simon Tansley and John Annison led the field in the 1st group. A good battle ensued but they were undone by conceding too many shots at crucial times and lost one down, with a strong team following we need not have worried, the Team winning overall 6.5 – 3.5.

A lovely two-course dinner, with wine, followed with kind words spoken by Bedfordshire Captain Mike Davies before he took Chris his secretary to task for leaving the  Pearson ‘Plate’ at home, especially as Hertfordshire had won it.  As you can imagine, the banter over dinner was mostly aimed at Chris, he took it in good spirit.

In the absence of our Sec. Eric, Brian Macdonald took over the mantle, proving a worthy replacement with the day running almost without a hitch.
