On the hottest day of the year, the past captains gathered to enjoy the hospitality and course of their Vice Captain, Brian Macdonald Harpenden Common. We were warmly welcomed by the current Club Captain Mike Gillis and warned that the greens were running over 12 on the stint meter, well which set the tone for the day. Played in warm sunshine the members had a different format this year playing with a friend in a fourball better ball Stableford competition for the Summer Cup, won in 2021 by Kaz Donald from Arkley. So, a great day, good company, and an excellent meal after enjoying copious amounts of fluids were taken during the round we waited to hear the results. Excellent results and some great play meant that if you scored 41 points you didn’t even reckon in the top 5 places! 42 points required some mathematical skills to separate the pairs but eventually, Eric Wyllie, Aldwickbury Park, and Doug Root, Whipsnade Park with 23 points on the back 9, 14 back 6, and 7 back 3 just edged out Tim Wilson and Allan Gray from Letchworth. In second were the team from Brickendon Grange on 43 points, Colin Hyde and Tony Bedford but way out in from was Kaz Donald with a new partner and brand new member of the society from Arkley with an impressive and outstanding 50 points! Their playing partners complimented on a solid pair that just hit the ball straight and dove-tailed perfectly, a lesson for us all. Congratulations to the winning partnership. Please Click Here to view photos
