Apologies for the late report, due to my PC being corrupted by a Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade without any foresight of the damage it would cause to mine and many others computers.

On a very warm and hot day the society gathered for Presidents Day, at Mid Herts, in glorious sunshine to enjoy the challenges of the course. After a few words of welcome from Club Captain Gordon Hammond and a light breakfast we headed off to play. The course was in excellent condition given the extreme dry weather we are experiencing and the greens kept you honest. The heat was however relentless, so the sight of the halfway house, with light refreshments, Pimm’s, cold beer and water was very welcome, provided by our President John. He was supported by his wife Wendy and Ann Nash who were a welcome sight along with their warm smiles and encouragement.

After an excellent meal and a few drinks we settled down to hear the results and obviously the idea of playing a pairs competition this year worked for some as you needed a score of 43 points or more to be in the top 4 ! In fourth place were Ray Sammons and Stuart Steverson from Royston with 43 points on countback, 3rd saw Allan Gray and Tim Wilson from Letchworth with 44 points and the just loosing out on 45 points with a back 9 of 20 were Dave Lines and Jim Cameron of Brookmans Park. So, in first place also with 45 points, but a back 9 of 21 were society Captain Simon Tansley and Bill Boniface ex Verulam who travelled up from Middleton Hall, Norfolk to play what a great random pairing they made. Congratulations to them both as the new holders of the Clive Harkett Claret Jug. Click for Photos. Apologies, my tables photo’s have been lost.
