As the season draws to its inevitable conclusion, we arrived at East Herts on a fine day for golf and our Autumn Meeting along with the final of the Crameri Cup. For the first time in the history of the Cup the home club had a team in the final, surely home advantage must be worth a few holes! Sadly, the numbers participating were down in recent years but that didn’t detract from a great day, some fine golf was played on a course that was looking and playing well before we all enjoyed one of the best meals of the year. Congratulations to East Herts on all fronts.

Yes, home advantage did prevail and saw the home pairing of Iain Mutch and Paul Scott winning the Crameri Cup 3 & 1 from Don Wilson and Graham Carter from The Melbourne Club, congratulations East Herts. On to the Autumn Trophy and you needed at least 37 points to get in the prizes, with local man Alan Thomas partnering Doug Root claiming 4th on countback from 3rd place Richard Blanchflower and Paul Burrell with a creditable 38 points. 2nd place saw two stalwarts of the society Ted Marriott and Allan Gray on 40 points but the eventual winners using their home advantage were Phil Swan and our Hon Auditor Melvyn Rose with an excellent 41 points. So, an excellent day all around for East Herts, winning the Crameri Cup, a share of The Autumn Cup, and providing a first-rate venue and delightfully fayre. We now look forward to the season-ending Christmas Fayre at Harpenden Common on the 1st of December, an opportunity to play with friends and eat your first Turkey meal’
