Another year and the team set off for the Buckingham Golf Club with hope rather than high expectations as the hosts usually pick a venue to suit themselves. Well, the weather was kind to us, which hasn’t always been the case this season and the teams from Worcestershire, Norfolk, Buckinghamshire and ourselves started out on a very interesting first hole, partially blind and water just where you wanted to land your tee shot! You’re Hon Sec was happy to be injured only watching this one!

These matches are usually a very close affair played off the ‘historical’ white tees as has been shown in recent years with the JES Teddy Brooke Trophy always keenly contested with the best 5 scores to count so a real team game. This year’s fixture didn’t disappoint either and as we had a rolling meal the scores slowly came in and the leaderboard was very close. So, for once home advantage didn’t pay off and Buckinghamshire had the honour of the virtual wooden spoon with 177 points, Norfolk had 188, and Worcestershire the current holders finished on 192 but I am delighted to say that the team of the day was from Hertfordshire winning with 193 points and also collecting one of the nearest the pins, congratulations Doug Barson and the best winning pair on 41 points, Nick Brookes and David Biggerstaff. So, it’s congratulations to Captain Brian Macdonald, Gary Rees, Simon Tansley, John Annison, Andy Bardsley, Neil Hewitt, Doug Barson, Phil Swan, Colin Anderson, Melvyn Rose, Nick Brookes, and David Biggerstaff for winning the event, the first time we have won since we hosted it Old Fold Manor in 2017. Next year it’s a trip to Droitwich!
