Match v Harpenden Common – Captains Club
So we arrived at Harpenden Common along with the rain for this 20 a side match which should have been played in shorts given the July date but instead it was waterproofs and umbrellas for most if not all. A 2 tee start helped the field out and the matches were tight affairs with some very close scores and as the Society Captain prevailed in his match he was a winner whatever the outcome. After enjoying an excellent buffet lunch and lively discussions the results filtered out. As things turned out this match followed the tradition of the host club winning, this time by a tighter margin than some 6 ½ – 3 ½ points. Congratulations to Club Captain Darren Hawkins and his team on the win. Please look after our (SOHGC) Salver until next year when we will try again to win it, this time against West Herts.
