On a superb summers day the society met up early at West Herts GC for our Vice Captains Day, enjoying our bacon rolls at 8am. The weather was set fair, sun shinning and the course in excellent condition as Society Captain Brian and Club Captain Frank led the field off from the 1st tee. Some great golf was played throughout the day, included a delightful shot into the 9th green by Captain Frank for a birdie before sampling Gary’s hospitality at the half way hut and setting off on the back 9.
After an excellent meal in the clubhouse the results showed that there was some excellent golf played by the members with 9, scoring 36 or more points. The top 4 saw, Peter Barnes on 38 points in fourth place and also winning the Roland Bird Trophy for the best score of a member over 75. Third place on countback also on 38 went to Society Captain Brian, just pipped for second by David Ross, Arkley on 39 points but he was still 2 points behind the winner of The Summer Cup, Duncan Mutton from Whipsnade Park, congratulations Duncan.
The day also saw the competition for the R & A Quaich hot up with 7 players within 6 points with the final qualifying event to be played on Presidents Day at Hadley Wood on the 19th July.
